Description
The large triquetra necklace is a silverplated Celtic trinity. Triangle in a circle, a love knot, is a famous symbol of Ireland. You might be surprised to learn that the Triquetra is the simplest knot in the world! A wonderful gift for the woman in your life.
When comes the first appearance of the Trinity knot in Celtic art appears to have occurred during Ireland’s Insular Art movement in the 7th century. However, an exact date is impossible to pin down. After the Norman Invasion, the Celtic knotwork design known as the Trinity knot had its heyday, which lasted until the beginning of the Middle Ages. The Gaelic aristocracy’s support kept Celtic knotwork alive during the dark period.
It wasn’t until the 15th century that the Trinity knot and other knotwork symbols such as it were once again used to embellish weapons and jewelry. However, since the the mid-18th century, the number of times the Trinity knot was used as a decorative motif has steadily declined. More examples of Celtic knotwork decorating weren’t seen until the middle of the 19th century when the so-called “Celtic Revival” began. Since then, representations of the various symbols have been recreated frequently.
