Freshwater Fish Insight:
Originally native to Europe and western Asia, the brown trout (*Salmo trutta*) was first introduced to North American waters in 1883 in Michigan’s Pere Marquette River. As noted by the US Geological Survey (USGS), brown trout are renowned among anglers as the most wary, intelligent, and difficult to deceive of all freshwater salmonids, frequently feeding under the cover of dusk and nocturnal shadows.
